FGLI Thrive

Student Groups

Connect with the FGLI Thrive community by following our online platforms, joining affiliated student organizations, or attending our local events. We provide a dedicated social network for first-generation, lower-income students, keeping you informed about campus opportunities while fostering a space to discuss shared experiences. Beyond general networking, our team hosts candid conversations on navigating imposter syndrome and the unique perspectives found within the student body, helping you tackle social hurdles and find your place on campus.

Eli Whitney Students Program

The Eli Whitney Students Program at Yale is designed for students who have had their education interrupted for five or more years, and it enrolls a small number of nontraditional students as undergraduates. Students may enroll part-time or full-time, and they take classes with other undergraduates. Given that some Eli Whitney students identify as FGLI and the difficulty that might arise from the age difference between them and other undergraduates, we seek to provide a welcoming space for them as well.

Matriculate

Matriculate

Matriculate is an educational nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower low-income, high-achieving high school students to make the leap to our nation’s top colleges. They do this by connecting low-income high-achieving high school students all around the country with college student advisors via remote/online platforms. Matriculate’s vision is that one day all the best students in America will have access to and be supported in the best colleges regardless of their socio-economic status or background.

Yale FGLI Advocacy Movement (YFAM)

Yale FGLI Advocacy Movement (YFAM) works to foster community among first-generation and/or low-income students through frequent events and opportunities to connect. YFAM also works to voice the concerns of the FGLI community through advocacy and raising awareness of different Yale resources to address FGLI needs. Lastly, YFAM strives to aid the pre-professional development of FGLI students by connecting them with faculty and peer mentors.

Connect with us on the YFAM Instagram account or via the YFAM Calculator Program (Our signup form for FGLI students who need to borrow a calculator for classes).
